It’s time for a raise!
Eight years is far too long for the lowest paid workers to wait for a raise. Good for Carole James for pushing this issue. Minimum wage should be at or above the poverty line!
New Democrats join British Columbians to mark eighth anniversary of BC’s minimum wage freeze
British Columbians believe hard work should be rewarded. It’s a core value that we all share.
That’s why the anniversary we marked this week was such a sad statement on the BC Liberals’ priorities.
Eight years ago this month, BC’s lowest paid workers got their last raise. Eight years ago.
In that time, costs have risen for all of life’s essentials.
And the new HST will make life even more expensive.
British Columbia now has the lowest minimum wage in the country.
And that means for tens of thousands of British Columbians getting up and going to work just doesn’t pay.
That has got to change.
To grow our economy and secure our future, every British Columbian who works hard, pays taxes, and contributes to their community should share in the benefits of BC’s economy.
But under the BC Liberals more and more British Columbians are falling behind.
BC has the highest child poverty rate in the country.
The gap between the rich and poor is growing.
And the middle-class is getting squeezed by rising costs and stagnant wages.
New Democrats believe it’s time to give minimum wage workers their first raise in eight years.
And it’s time to invest in the fundamentals to support a growing economy, a strong middle-class, and healthy communities.

Happy Birthday Canada4Life!
Canada4Life.Ca turned five years old yesterday, and I almost didn’t even notice. I only realized it because I was talking to someone about Rant & Roar and how long the forum has been running. I guess I should have clued in that the anniversary was coming up, because I renewed the domain a few days ago. It’s not really something I pay much attention to. And I guess maybe I should. The site’s come a long way since it’s Geocities days.

I was stumbling around the internet today and clicked a link that brought me to bitter-girl.com It’s a blog from someone I don’t know. Anyway, I thought her blog post for 16th September was interesting. The idea is you type the letters of the alphabet in your browser’s address bar and post the first url that auto-completes. Quick post
I’m just posting quickly before I have to leave for work. I haven’t been online for a while because my computer was in for repairs. My CDROM/burner wasn’t working for a long time, and I finally took it in for repair. It was covered under my warranty, but they had a backlog of computers they were working on so they told me it would be ready in 5 days.
Roger was in town over the long weekend, but I missed hanging out with him because I fell asleep. Sorry Roger, I only got 3 hours sleep that day.
On Monday the right side of my face was hurting so I took a couple aspirin and went to sleep. On Tuesday the pain had gone away, but my face was all swollen on the right side. It was huge. I called the dentist and was able to see him about an hour after I called. He ended up pulling one of my teeth at the very back of my mouth. It was a tooth that I had had a filling on which became infected. So now I’m on Penicillian and T3s. Woohoo. The swelling has gone down a lot, but it’s still a little bigger than the other side. At least I’m not feeling any pain.
I’ll post more later, but I have to leave for work.
Online cigarettes
Do people actually buy cigarettes online? For a while now my guestbook on Canada4Life.Ca has been getting spammed by people posting links to their sites. I just delete the entries. Tonight I had eight entries all linking to some sites selling cigarettes. I didn’t actually visit the sites, but from their names I figured they sell cigarettes. I wouldn’t think there’d be too much of a market for online cigarettes.
I think I have the spammer blocked from all pages on Canada4Life.Ca now. I’ll just have to wait and see. Spam is evil.

Attention software writers…
Attention software writers: Stop with the fucking shortcuts already!!!
Seriously, if I wanted a shortcut to your program on my desktop, and another one in my quick launch bar, and another one at the top of my start menu, plus one in the programs group, I would bloody well put it there myself. I understand that you’re trying to make access to your software as easy as possible, but at least give me a choice during the installation process. I know there are a few programs that let you check or un-check a box to say if you want a shortcut or not, and I love it when they do that. I think Winamp is one of the programs that does that, but I’m not sure.
If you’re curious what prompted this post, I just installed Quicktime on my computer. It’s bad enough that I have to use their software, I don’t want to waste my time deleting shortcuts I’ll never use. I only installed Quicktime player so I could watch some off the videos I have on Canada4Life.Ca.
