I’ve Moved

September 28, 2009 · Filed Under Personal · Comment

It’s occured to me that I never posted anything on here about my recent move. So to those readers who are unaware, I am no longer a New Democrat blogging from the Conservative heartland of Calgary Alberta. Now I’m blogging from the conservative heartland of Kelowna British Columbia. I moved back to my hometown at the end of August.

You may have noticed a few changes in the site since then. Nothing major. You may also notice more topics regarding B.C. now and fewer about Alberta.

I’m Famous!

July 8, 2007 · Filed Under Current Events, Personal · Comment

I’m famous! Ok not really, but my name was mentioned on CTV News in Ottawa. I received an email from a reporter for CTV Ottawa who was working on a story about Canada online. He wanted to mention my site, and asked me to answer a few questions. The email was flagged as spam by my email program, but luckily I saw it and was able to reply to his email before it was too late. So on Canada Day the story ran, and mentioned me and my site. I was really quite impressed. The story ran on CTV Ottawa, and was available to their affiliates, but I’m not sure if anyone else showed it. Roger was able to tape it on satellite, and I have it up on my website now. http://www.canada4life.ca/videos.php

Calgary, The Heart of the New West

June 17, 2007 · Filed Under Personal · Comment

Well, this is my first blog post from my new home here in Calgary. I left Kelowna as planned on the 5th, but didn’t arrive in Calgary until the 6th, and haven’t really gotten around to posting until now.

My mom had offered to help me move my stuff to Calgary, but she worked the night before and had been up all day driving so we ended up stopping somewhere near Roger’s Pass for a nap, and then we stopped again for the night in Golden. It worked out ok though. We arrived here just a few minutes before my roommate got home from work.

The first day of the trip was a lot of fun. ;-) My bed was tied to the roof of my parent’s van, and was catching a lot of wind. We ended up having to stop in Vernon and tie it down better. There’s no way we would have made it the full 600 and something kilometres without losing it along the way. Plus it was pouring rain almost the entire trip. The bed was covered with a tarp, but it still got a little wet, so my first night sleeping in Calgary was on the floor upstairs while I waited for my bed to dry.

Every thing is pretty good now. I have pretty much everything unpacked, and it’s starting to feel like home. I just have to do some cleaning I guess to make the place livable. It was kind of a disaster when I moved in.

I’m on my weekend right now, but I ended up working seven days in a row starting on June 9th. My transfer was supposed to be complete, but when I went into Wal-Mart on the 8th to talk to someone in personnel, no one knew anything about it. Not even the store manager. Everything is worked out now. I guess the personnel manager was away. I like this Wal-Mart a lot better so far. I liked most of the people where I worked before, but the store was another story. I can’t really put my finger on it, but there’s something about Wal-Mart here that makes it seem like a much better place to work. They’re paying me considerably more too, so that’s a plus. :-D And I get Saturday and Sunday off. That may change though. There’s supposed to be a new manager taking over nights and he said he may need me to work on those days. Doesn’t really matter to me, as long as I get two days in a row.

I still have a lot of stuff to do to get settled into this city. Like changing my address for all my bills, and setting up a new bank account, but I’m really excited about being in a new city so I’m not too worried about that stuff right now.

I guess I don’t really have much else to post about right now. There’s a post that I was going to make before I left Kelowna, but with being busy with packing and all, I didn’t have the time. I’ll make that post directly after this one I guess.

Moving

Well, I have some big news to report. A lot has happened since I last posted, including me deciding to move to Calgary. I’ve been out there a few times visiting friends and family, and I love the city. I’m also pretty excited about getting out of Kelowna. It’s a great place, but I think I really need a change.

I still have a lot of stuff to do. I haven’t started packing yet, and I’m supposed to be leaving next week! Actually, I don’t know for sure when I’m leaving. I’m transferring to a new store out there for the time being, and I’m supposed to start on the 9th of June. My last day working here is the 1st so I have a week to get there and get all settled in.

I’m really excited about it all. I’m just not really excited about all the work involved. I have to pack. I have to clean this place. I have to set up a new bank account, plus tell everyone my new address. Plus I told my mom I would fix up her computer before I leave town. And then there’s the Tracer. The beloved Tracer needs a new home. I can’t very well take it with me, and I can’t leave it here, so it looks like it’s going to Pick-n-Pull. :-( Plus there’s a ton of other stuff to do, I’m sure. I just can’t think of anything right now. I may have to sit down and make a list.

Anyway, I better get my ass in gear and get some of this stuff done. I’ve been procrastinating ever since I made the decision to move, and I think it’s going to come back to bite me in the ass. So much to do, so little time to do it, but I wanted to post a quick note just in case anyone actually reads this page anymore. :-) I’ll try to keep this page updated more frequently, especially since I’m going to be so far from family here in Kelowna. At least people will be able to read up on what’s new in my life.

Christmas

December 26, 2006 · Filed Under Personal · Comment

Oh, speaking of Christmas, I had a pretty good one. I spent it with my parents and my brother Lyle, and his girlfriend. I got a couple of really cool gifts and a few much needed ones. Like clothes and such.

Ok, I’m off to bed. I’ll post more later.

New Phone

September 20, 2006 · Filed Under Personal · Comment

I got a new cell phone the other day. I’ve had some trouble with my phone for a while now. The battery wasn’t holding a charge for very long, and then eventually it wouldn’t charge at all. I works if I charge it through the second charging port in the bottom of the phone, but not the usual port, and the battery needs replacing. I went to a Telus store when I was in Calgary and they told me that if I was less than one year into my contract they would just replace the battery free of charge, but I was past that deadline. I found out later that I was only two days past the deadline.

I went to a Telus store when I got back to Kelowna and talked to someone there who told me it would be about $115 to replace the battery, and I still would have to use the second charging port which I only have a car charger for. So I’d have to buy a wall charger too. Which would cost me over $30. So I just said the hell with it and bought a new phone for $150. It’s a nice phone, but it doesn’t have any newer features than my last phone. That’s ok though. I just need a phone, not a phone/camera/mp3 player/whatever else.

It’s an LG 210. Here’s a picture I found on the net.

Rant & Roar Finally Updated

September 20, 2006 · Filed Under Personal · Comment

Well I finally got my website’s forums updated. Actually, they were updated last Thursday, and I’m just posting about it now. I didn’t get them updated as soon as I got home from Vancouver like I had hoped, because I made an unplanned trip to Calgary with my parents. I’m still working on setting up the Canada4Life shirt sales, and I’m updating a few other pages on Canada4Life.Ca. You can check Canada4Life.Ca’s “What’s New” page for details on that.

In Vancouver

September 1, 2006 · Filed Under Personal · Comment

Hey all. I’m posting from Vancouver. I’m at my friend Chris’s house just waiting for him to come home from work. I’m in Vancouver for the Great Big Sea concert tonight in Stanley Park. It should be great. I’ve seen them in concert once before when they were in Kelowna, and it was awesome. I think I like them better live. I have all their CD’s and the live one is really good.

I was just reading my last blog post and decided that I better get my ass in gear and finish updating Rant & Roar. I’ve been working on it quite a few times, but I have’t spent very long periods of time working on it. I would do it right now, but all the files I need are stored on my computer at home. Hopefully I’ll finish that up within a couple days of getting home. There’s really very little left to do.

I’m also hoping to get something set up on the site to sell Canada4Life clothing sometime very soon. I know I already posted about it, and the site says they’re coming soon, but it’s been too long already. I want to get that up and running sometime this week. I’m hoping the sale of Canada4Life.Ca clothing will help promote the site, and help pay for the hosting.

Anyway, I’m going to see if I can find something to do. I’ll post more about the concert later. Probably not until I get home, because I don’t know if I’ll be online again before that.

Done for the night.

It’s after 3AM and I just finished working on the forums. I’m not completely done yet, but I’m almost falling asleep at the keyboard so I’m going to call it a night and finish up tomorrow. Then once I get the forums updated I can start updating some other parts of the site.

Back to work

August 2, 2006 · Filed Under Personal · Comment

Well, I’m back to work now. I worked two nights and my back seems ok. At least it’s not any worse than before I went back to work. I’m seeing a physiotherapist, so hopefully everything will be back to normal soon.

During my time off work I did some updating on the forums at Canada4Life.Ca, but I don’t have it completed yet. It’s taking longer than normal because I installed so many hacks on the forums, and did so much customizing. Also, I’m fixing up the forum’s template to be valid xhtml. Right now it’s running on old invalid code. I’m going to work on it tonight and hopefully I’ll have it finished before I have to go back to work on Friday.
