Blog Lists

As some of my readers know, I’m on vacation right now. I just got back home from Kelowna, B.C. Before I left town I submitted my blog to two sites, New Democrats Online, and Blogging Canadians. When I checked my email, one of the first things I did when I got home, I was happy to see that my blog was accepted at both sites. So I’m now listed on both and I’ve added buttons for both of them in the sidebar here. I also re-jiggered the sidebar and removed a link from the top menu today. Plus I fixed an error with the site’s RSS feed that was pointed out to me by both someone from Blogging Canadians and someone from New Democrats Online. (Thanks! :-D ) I’ll be adding both sites to my links page in a few minutes. Hopefully my new affiliation with these two sites will bring more visitors here. Please post comments and let me know what you think. :-) At the very least, having my blog listed on other sites should motivate me to post more often. Look for more posts in the next few days.

Change?

I was reading some news on Canada.com today and had to laugh at the advertisement at the top of the page. It was an ad for the Alberta Progressive Conservative Party. That part wasn’t really funny. The funny part is their campaign slogan. I’ve heard it on the radio already, and it makes me laugh every time. Their slogan is “Change that works for Albertans”. That’s not all that funny in itself, but I think it’s hilarious when you consider that the Alberta PCs have been in power since they upset the Socreds in 1971. That’s right ladies and gentleman, the party that’s been running this province for 37 years wants you to believe that a vote for them is a vote for change. I agree with the PCs on one thing. This province could certainly use a change in government, but voting for the same government as the last 37 years isn’t change at all. I’m hoping the PCs’ choice of a slogan backfires on them. I’d like to see Albertans vote en mass for a change of governing party!

The Liberals Change Their Mind

I was very surprised to hear earlier this week that the Liberals have apparently changed their opinion on Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. In retrospect, I guess I shouldn’t have been so surprised. It seems Dion and his party will do anything, or in some cases abstain from doing anything, in order to prevent an election. Don’t get me wrong, as a New Democrat, even I don’t completely agree with the party’s official stance on the war. As much as anyone else, I’d love to see the troops come home today, but I recognize that that’s not a possibility. I actually supported the Liberals’ bill last spring that called for confirmation that our troops would withdraw by February 2009. I know that New Democrats would like to see the troops withdrawn sooner than that, but it really pissed me off that they didn’t support the Liberal bill anyway. It was clear from the get go that the NDP’s motion to withdraw immediately wasn’t going to pass, so they should have voted in favour of the next best thing, the Liberals’ bill.

Although I don’t agree with Jack Layton or the official party position on this issue, at least I know where they stand. I can’t be sure from one day to the next what the Liberals believe. I guess they believe in anything that will keep them out of an election that they can’t win.
