Happy Flag Day!

I know I’m late, but I was going to post this hours ago and ended up going out instead. February 15th is national flag day, and if you’re like most Canadians you had no idea. Sadly February 15th is not a well known date for most people. It is, of course, the day our current flag came to officially represent Canada. I remember participating in flag day ceremonies years ago as a Sea Scout, but other than that I can’t think of any other events ever taking place. I’m not even sure if that still happens. That may all change if Peggy Nash (MP NDP) gets her way. She plans to introduce a bill that would make Flag Day a national statutory holiday. I say good for her, not just because I like getting paid for time I didn’t actually work, but also because it’s about time we recognize the importance of that day. Even if the house of commons doesn’t pass this bill I hope more is done in the future to promote Flag Day.
