A couple changes
I made a couple little changes to my blog. I shortened the list of recent entries on the right side of the page so it only shows the first fifteen characters of the entry title. I have some pretty long titles that were distorting the page.
I also wrote a page for me to post from. Before I was just using phpMyAdmin. Now I have just a simple form to fill in to post a message.
Someone broke into my car
Someone broke into three cars at Walmart overnight. Mine was one of them. They stole stereos and speakers from the other two cars, but only took Canadian Tire money from mine. Why they even bothered stealing a few cents in CT money is beyond me.
They got in by smashing one of my rear windows. The little triangle one behind the back door. Other than that they just emptied out my glove box and threw all my shit on the floor. I guess they decided that my stereo wasn’t worth taking, or maybe they took off because someone came out of the building. I never keep anything of value in my car, so I guess I’m pretty lucky. At least I can say that they probably picked my car because it was one of the nicest cars in the lot.
I was the one who called the cops. My first time ever calling 911.
When she finally got there she didn’t seem like she cared. She took down our names and addresses, and what was stolen, then said she was going to do some paper work and then come talk to us again. We were on our lunch break when we found out the cars had been broken into, so after we talked to the cop we punched back in and went back to work. The cop never did talk to me again, but one of the other guys who’s car got broken into returned my registration papers to me with a business card from the officer that has my case number.
I understand that unless we actually witnessed the theft there’s not much the police can do about it, but it seemed like the cop didn’t really give a shit. She was trying to look through my tinted windows with a puny little flashlight, and when I offered to unlock and open the door for her she said no, it was ok. What the fuck did she expect to see through the tinted windows? She barely even looked inside the other cars either, and they actually had stuff stolen from them.
Anyways, I’m pretty pissed about the whole thing. And apparently this isn’t the first time this has happened. It sounds like they had several break-ins when Wal-Mart was at their old store. Despite that there is no security patroling the lot.
Now my plans for the day are to find out where the cheapest place is to get a new window for my car. I’ve been told by some guys at work that it’ll probably be cheaper if I don’t go through ICBC. I’m going to find out.
I think I’m going to play some swat for a little bit. Get rid of some of my frustration.
Quick post
I’m just posting quickly before I have to leave for work. I haven’t been online for a while because my computer was in for repairs. My CDROM/burner wasn’t working for a long time, and I finally took it in for repair. It was covered under my warranty, but they had a backlog of computers they were working on so they told me it would be ready in 5 days.
Roger was in town over the long weekend, but I missed hanging out with him because I fell asleep. Sorry Roger, I only got 3 hours sleep that day.
On Monday the right side of my face was hurting so I took a couple aspirin and went to sleep. On Tuesday the pain had gone away, but my face was all swollen on the right side. It was huge. I called the dentist and was able to see him about an hour after I called. He ended up pulling one of my teeth at the very back of my mouth. It was a tooth that I had had a filling on which became infected. So now I’m on Penicillian and T3s. Woohoo.
The swelling has gone down a lot, but it’s still a little bigger than the other side. At least I’m not feeling any pain.
I’ll post more later, but I have to leave for work.
Who cares?
I was just reading in the news about the big contraversy brewing over prince Charles marrying Camilla. When the prince announced the wedding plans he said that Camilla would not be named queen. Now the British government is saying by law she would take the title queen as soon as Charles becomes king, and legislation would have to be passed in Britian, and in the commonwealth countries to prevent that. Why would it matter if she’s called queen or not? It’s just a title, and it’s not like she actually does anything to affect our government. I don’t understand why people get so worked up about the littlest things that don’t really matter. Like those idiots who were going to court to challenge the legality of royals getting married in a civil service. Who really gives a shit? They love each other, and they want to get married, so let them. It’s none of your business.
I say we should cut all ties to this soap opera we call the monarchy. What good do they do for us anyway?
Troops pulling out of Iraq
Well it’s about time. Italy’s president announced today that his country will begin pulling troops out of Iraq in September. When the war began there were 38 countries that sent troops to Iraq to support the United States. Fourteen of those countries have since withdrawn.
This Saturday marks the two year anniversary of the start of the war. Still no weapons of mass destruction have been found. There are protests planned all around the world to mark the anniversary.
In other news BushCo has started producing fascist style propaganda. http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/story.jsp?story=619654
And I almost forgot, I found this link while surfing the net today: http://www.freewayblogger.com I think that’s great. Why don’t we have things like this for Canadian issues?
RSS Syndicated
I just finished adding RSS syndication to my blog. It was pretty easy considering I had never done anything like that before. I actually only found out about RSS a little while ago when I started using Firefox. I was curious what the little orange icon was in the bottom right of my browser and when I clicked it I was able to add a live bookmark. I think it’s a great idea, so I’ve added that functionality here. I have a link to the RSS feed page in the buttons section on this page.
If anyone has any questions just post a comment.
Running a little slow.
My computer has been lagging quite a bit lately. At first I thought it was just my internet being slow, but then I noticed other things not working normally. I tried restarting the computer, but that doesn’t help much. I think it’s taking longer to boot up than normal too. I might reformat if it keeps this up. Hopefully I don’t have a virus or something. I’m updating my virus scanner and running a full system scan right now. Now that I think of it, I don’t remember it doing a full system scan automatically lately like it’s supposed to. It’s configured, and everything, but I don’t remember it doing a scan for a very long time now. I guess I should install adaware again and see what that comes up with too.
My car insurance expired yesterday. I went in to get new insurance, but yesterday was Saturday, and they closed early. I had a feeling I might be too late, but I drove to the nearest insurance place and pulled on the door handle. It was locked, but I could see someone inside. I decided I was SOL, and went back to my car, figuring I’d have to wait ’til Monday. Then I noticed the lady from inside at the door and waving for me to come back. She said they were closed, but their computers hadn’t been shut down yet so she could help me. So that was really great of her. It only took a few minutes to get everything set up. I didn’t opt for any additional insurance except for their new underinsured drivers coverage. It was only an extra $2 a month. So everything was great, and I had my insurance. Then when I got home I noticed the name on the paper for the underinsured coverage was wrong. It has the name of some woman from Prince George on it instead of mine. My other insurance was fine. Just the underinsured thing was messed up. I’m not sure how this happened, or how neither I nor the insurance broker noticed it. I looked a little closer at the information on the paper and the woman who’s name it’s in has a similiar drivers licence number to mine. So maybe while rushing to get my insurance set up the insurance lady made a typo. I don’t know, but I guess I’ll find out on Monday.
Cherie has Monday off this week so we’re going to do something. Not sure what yet, but it’s nice that we finally have a day off together.
Well, I’m off to bed. I’ve been having trouble waking up to get to work lately. I’ve been getting to work on time except for last night when I was two minutes late, but I’ve had to rush out the door, and hurry to work. Today I’m planning on getting everything completely ready to go long before I actually have to leave. Hopefully I don’t sleep in, and this plan actually works.
Brand New Phone
It looks like my bitching paid off. I just got a phone call from Radio Shack’s district manager. He apologized and told me he has instructed the store to give me a brand new phone. I can pick it up immediately. They’re going to give me a newer model too. It’s a MotorolaV220. I just looked at it on Motorola’s website, and it looks a lot nicer than my previous phone. Now I’m kinda glad I complained.
Not that I really needed a camera phone that can play videos and use MP3s as ringtones, but this is going to be sweet!
About two minutes after I got off the phone with the district manager I got another call from the store here in Kelowna. I missed the call, but they left a message saying my phone was ready. He didn’t mention my complaint, and the way he talked it sounded as if they were “upgrading” my phone out of the kindness of their hearts, not because they were told to by head office. Anyways, I’m pretty excited about my new phone. I think this is the first time complaining has ever paid off for me. It feels good.
Other than that, nothing else is new. I’m working on BK Sucks.net right now. I’m having trouble deciding on a design. Hopefully I come up with something cool. If anyone has suggestions let me know.
Radio Shack Sucks
Well, I’m thoroughly pissed with Radio Shack and will not be shopping their again. Here’s a letter I sent to their Customer Service department through their website today:
To whom it may concern
It is with great frustration and disgust that I write to you today regarding the quality of service that I recently received from your Kelowna B.C. location, located within Orchard Park Shopping Centre.
On February 9 2005 my Motorola cell phone, model V60i, which I purchased at Radio Shack became wet, and stopped working. I was relieved that at the time of purchase I had purchased an extended warranty that covered water damage to my phone. The next day I visited the location where I had purchased the phone and told one of your employees what had happened. He did a quick search on the computer and informed me that the phone I was trying to get repaired was not my cell phone, and was not the one I had bought from them. When I told him this was the second phone I had bought, he checked again, and discovered that I was in the computer twice, but once with my name spelled incorrectly. Once this initial confusion was cleared up, I was assured that my warranty covered the damage to my phone, but it would still need to be shipped away. I was surprised when the staff member told me that I would get a phone call within two or three days about picking up my replacement phone. When I didn’t receive a call, I assumed that the person I dealt with had exaggerated the speed of service. After waiting two weeks without a phone call I again visited the Orchard Park location and inquired about my phone. I was told that a technician had been assigned, and they were just waiting for a replacement phone to be delivered to the store. At that time the guy I spoke with confirmed the phone number on file and took down an alternative number where I could be reached. I was told that my phone would be ready for pickup within a couple of days. Satisfied that the store was working to get me a replacement phone as soon as possible, I left. A week passed and I heard nothing from Radio Shack. On the 9th of March I visited Radio Shack again, and asked if my phone was in. The employee I spoke with checked on the computer, and then made a phone call to see the status of my phone. When he was finished on the phone he informed me that a phone was on the way, and I could pick it up in a couple days. Frustrated, I informed him that I was told the same thing a month ago, and was still waiting to see some results. He mumbled something about “year end”, and said “some things had been lost”, and then told me that all I could do is wait, and if my phone did not arrive within a couple days then he could “get to the bottom of this”.
Not satisfied that anything was being done to get me my phone, I decided to write a letter to customer service to complain about the lack of service I was receiving. I’m hoping that by writing to you this problem can be solved, without inconveniencing any more customers. As for me, you have already lost me, my family, and my friends as customers, and except for going to pickup my phone, I don’t intend on ever setting foot in another Radio Shack store. I feel that, having spent hundreds of hard earned dollars in your store, I should be a valued customer. My experience with your company over the past month has led me to believe that once the sale has been finalised, and you have received payment, any further service is not a top priority. I would like to remind you that I paid good money for an extended warranty, and would not have, if I knew it would be this much trouble.
I’m confident that you will agree that a month is far too long to wait for a simple replacement of warranted merchandise. I was told that I would only have to wait 2-3 days, and did not mind having to wait a little longer, but I think I should have been informed of the delay as soon as it became known to your staff. When your staff tells me that they will get back to me in a couple days I don’t think it is too much to ask for them to follow through with that. It seems like your answer to everything is “It will be ready in a couple days”. Your couple days has turned into a month, and I still haven’t received my phone.
The quality of service I received from your company is unacceptable, and I hope this issue can be resolved very soon.
Sincerely,
Curtis Sanderson
Another website
I’m now the proud registered owner of bksucks.net. The site’s an idea Roger and I talked about before, but never really did too much with it. There’s nothing there right now, but I’m going to be working on it whenever I can, and hope to have it available to the public very soon. I’ve already started building the site, but you can’t view it yet. If anyone wants to volunteer to help, or just make some suggestions please contact me. The more people working on this, the faster it will be done, and hopefully the better it will be. I’m going to be especially busy now that I’m running three websites, and have promised to build at least two more for someone else.
I also did quite a bit of work on this site in the last week. As you can see, the commenting section is operational once again. So if you stop by please leave me some comments to let me know you were here. I look at my website’s statistics every once in a while, and wonder who all these people are who are visiting, and how they found my site. It’d be nice to hear from some of you.
I’ve decided that I’m going to try really hard to post at least every two days. I was looking at some other people’s blogs today, and they were all dead. Noone had posted since last year. I’m going to try very hard to keep that from happening to this site. Even if that means posting mindless crap when I can’t think of anything else worth posting.
I’m going to see if I can get some sleep. I’ll post again later.
